Interaction by Harleen Parmar

After reading the post by Harleen Parmar , it is illustrated in this video rated to the relationship between our screen and our depressing emotion. Therefore, it is assumed by people that people in different business cases may not use their own products. The screen-based industry is developed by Steve Jobs. On the basis of description of Steve Jobs, it is one of the best browsing experience which will be owned by people, therefore being an incredible experience. During the process of interviewing with the reporter in the New York Times, he states that he does not allow his children to use this digital device. That is why students in the school cited in the Ted Talk are not allowed to use digital devices. Therefore, great changes have taken place in the average 24-hour workday. For instance, people need to interact with himself in order to relax himself. To conclude, this video is quite educational.

Blog Post 4: Interaction

Video: Interaction Design at ArtCenter College of Design

In all, it is necessary for the designers to ask themselves before planning to do. Therefore, it is necessary to assess reasons. In my opinion, there are several parts of the assessments like peer reviews, group reflective process. One method used by the learner in order to assess content in a formal way is the strategy called Socratic seminar which can be used in any topic, as well as encouraging participants to be active. Many people can make contribution in this way.

From my perspective, another thing which is considered to be critical is learner which can offer most obvious data during the design process. There are many interactive platforms which can offer feedback options. As a result, several questions have been raised like “ should the information be used as assessment”.

Based on the discussion made previously, learners are helpful for reflecting frequently based on open-ended prompts. In this way can metacognitive skills be developed. Based on the previous discussion, whichever interaction mode to be used is not  a part of the assessment plan. As a result, it is important for the student to ensure alignment between outcomes and tasks, therefore ensuring efficiency.

Different methods need to be used between teacher and learner by documenting attendance. In my opinion, the designer need to ask questions related to this. Therefore, there are several topics related to this period. In my opinion, all these factors need to be taken into consideration by them which are quite critical.

Therefore, much work needs to be done in this activity cause. In this way can the work be both manageable and worthwhile. On one hand, different kinds of activities are supposed to be scaled for largest number of students. On the other hand, in the context of COVID-19, other factors are supposed to be considered.

Peer Review: Dinosaur Inquiry Unit

I am doing my peer review on the Interactive Learning Resource:

Dinosaur Inquiry Unit  by Mara Cox, Anna Kato, Weiting Wu and Aaron Henshaw

On the “Home” page, the site briefly describes the main content, learning outcomes, and teaching strategies contained on the site. In terms of Learning Outcomes, the authors of this website have numbered four main outcomes that I can easily and clearly see and understand. But in the introduction to the main content of the unit (the first paragraph under the picture), a term “BC Curriculum” appears. This may seem to raise questions about what “BC Curriculum” is. Perhaps using the full name would give the viewer a more straightforward understanding. When I press the “Overview” button, the page that appears is exactly the same as the “Home” page. Perhaps it would be better to separate the content on the “Home” page, with the main content on the “Home” page and the teaching strategies and the learning outcomes on the “Overall” page. This way, the structure would be clearer.

On Inquiry-Based Learning, there is a video that explains what “Inquiry-Based Learning” is. This is great because it is another option for people who do not want to read the text. However, it seems to me that there is a need for a citation or caption below the video. In the following paragraphs of the video, the bullet list with numbers is still used to introduce the four types of inquiry learning. This is a great method to quickly grab the viewer’s attention and provides them with clear and concise content.

In the pages of “Rationales”, “Modules”, and “Strategies”, not all images have citation, and in my opinions, this needs to be improved. After reviewing the “Modules” content, I found that it was focused on what it would take for a teacher to use the Interactive Learning Resource to teach the children. The learning outcomes mentioned in the beginning are related to the knowledge and skills that students can gain by completing the unit.  Please correct me if I have misunderstood anything in this part.

I also noticed that the authors of the website mentioned that they focus on hearing loss and color blindness on “Inclusive Learning Design” section under “Strategies” page. The main ways to help color blind students are “1) well-lit classrooms, 2) use patterns instead of colors to classify objects, and 3) make worksheets black or white”. The latter two points are not well represented in the Modules’ interactive videos and pictures, since all images and videos are colorful.

Overall, I found the content and interactivity of the site to be very good. The authors use a variety of images, videos, and listings in a way that makes it very easy for the viewer to be engaged and understand what they are trying to convey. The main points to note are improving the citation and clarifying the target audience. Besides, the pages of “Forums” are still blank and need to be refined.

Inclusive Design by Sinead Swan

After reading the post by Sinead Swan, I quite agree with your opinion related to inclusive design. In the context of pandemic, most students are forced to study at home instead of a normal classroom. That is a really learning barrier existing in our country. Compared to studying at the library, I sometimes feel that I am not as productive as before. I could focus for over eight hours while studying at school. When taking outline classes, it is really difficult for me to stay focused. Therefore, I really agree with your opinion that “ it is important to remember that the barriers faced on the daily can be adjusted”. Just as the pandemic changes everyone’s life, the studying method used by us is also supposed to be changed. As a great number of people have difficult in writing, the activity is useful for improving the writing level of students.

Inclusive Design in Visual Arts by Soals

After reading the post by Soals , I quite agree with the opinion related to methods of adjusting planned learning activities in order to meet the needs of learners if some unexpected events take place. In the context of more progressive times, innovative learning methods like inclusive learning have enjoyed great popularity in schools. However, in the context of the pandemic, topics like visual arts still become unchanged. Therefore, when taking a visual art class, it is still necessary for students to go to classroom to have studio times.

Despite the fact that online art classes is not as good as an in-persona experience with the help of an instructor, it is the best way to avoid getting infected. As a result, the right posture of painting standing up will be taught. That cannot be realized by the zoom class. Therefore, I also agree with you opinion that the medium needs to be changed if it has to be conducted online.

Blog Post 3: Inclusive Design

Consider the learning environment for your current design. What potential barriers can be reduced or eliminated to provide more pathways for learner success?

In all, it is necessary for learning designers to ensure that education opportunities are able to meet the needs of all learners. That is the future trend for designers. The focus of these posts need to be on identifying and reducing barriers in contemporary environment. Both parents and educational staff are lucky to receive professional development from one person named Shelly Moore. In my opinion, the way she used for representing different people is quite innovative by using bubbles. On one hand, green dots can be used for representing typical learners while other dots are used for representing different people who learn in a different way. The new cycle used is also different by eliminating the premise of typical students and other atypical students. There are a great number of green dots in the picture showing inclusion. Therefore, from the opinion of Morre, we are able to perform better in the field of learning designs. This can make use do better with our learning designs by celebrating our own individual strengths as well as valuing the diversity brought to the workplace. Inclusive learning design is a new definition. As a learning designer, it is necessary to ensure that all learners should succeed in realizing their own goals and outcomes. This article tries to let me think of many rituals I used for supporting my day. For instance, I drank one cup of coffee in the morning to start my day. Not only can this ritual make my life easier, but also I can manage my own work in an easier way. I am also quite interested in the law called inclusive education Canada indicating that “ human rights laws are supposed to offer education providers ability to make their service more accessible to disabled person. “. To conclude, the law is quite useful.

Cooperative learning & Visual Art by Amy

After reading the post by Amy , I very much agree with the idea of partnership. This is a very successful concept. It’s trying to get me to start sharing my ideas with more people. And in this project, people have learned how to work together and stick to it. Teams often encourage each other. This can not help but remind me of a cooperative learning experience that I once participated in. Everyone was assigned tasks. People often share the latest information they find. In the fierce debate, everyone has gained happiness. Everyone’s feelings have become more profound. And everyone in the constant debate, the mastery of knowledge is also constantly improving. It’s a very good way to learn. So many years later, I often think of that time. It brought me a very happy time. Cooperative learning should also have appropriate team members and mechanisms. If the team-mates do not achieve good development, such a learning method will become meaningless.

Direct Instruction & Visual Arts by Yirunjin

I quite agree with the Yirun’s post about direct teaching. Direct teaching is a kind of teaching method that will be often used. It is mainly guided by teachers. This course depends mainly on the teacher’s rich teaching plan. The whole teaching process is prepared and planned by teachers in advance. I have participated in similar teaching processes. One day before the beginning of the course, the teacher will send us a teaching plan. This lesson plan will introduce the main contents and knowledge points of the next class. The lesson plan guides us to prepare in advance. The next day, we had some basic knowledge about the second class. The whole teaching process was very smooth. So I think the content of blog about direct teaching is very correct. I like this teaching method very much, but it is not suitable for some courses which need to have a strong basic ability.

Blog Post 1: Learning, Motivation, and Theory by Capri

I think  Capri’s Blog Post on how to keep learning motivated is quite right. Learning is a long-distance race, it needs to constantly overcome various difficulties. Only those who persevere can succeed in the end. So continuous learning motivation becomes particularly important. An excellent teacher will teach students in accordance with their aptitude, and he will formulate appropriate strategies according to the different situations of each student. I once saw a student studying mathematics. In the beginning, its math scores were very poor. The teacher just blamed the child for not making progress. But when the child changed his teacher, his teacher made a comprehensive assessment of his mastery. And keep encouraging him. Its mathematics performance has been greatly improved.

Focus and persistence is a difficult problem. How to attract people and keep them focused is what people need to study. If I am in charge of similar work, I think the biggest difficulty is how to attract people.

Post 1: Learning, Motivation, and Theory by Latenight11

After reading Latenight11’s Post, I thought about learning how to swim by myself. The road of learning is not plain sailing. Only by constantly overcoming difficulties and persevering, can people get good returns. When I was young, I used to drown. Since then, I have had an inexplicable fear of water. My mother told me that only by learning to swim can we avoid another accident. The process of learning is boring. I’m always afraid of drowning again. And you need to practice breath holding and breathing every day. This process makes me very uncomfortable. But my mother encouraged me many times, she told me a good start, I was half successful. The rest is to insist. Under the constant encouragement of my mother, I learned to be useful. It can be seen that the most difficult thing in any study is persistence.

Blog Post 2: Cooperative Learning and Public Goods

What is Cooperative Learning?

Cooperative learning is a new learning mode. It is mainly through the division of labor to achieve the same goal. Students can complete the overall learning effect by undertaking some tasks. It is a kind of mutual learning with clear division of responsibilities. It is a structured and systematic learning strategy. This kind of learning method tries to encourage people to learn from competitors. Cooperative learning is a derivative of traditional teacher led learning mode. It encourages more students’ overall participation. Students master the concept of collaborative learning. Students in groups, through cooperation and cooperation, complete learning tasks and improve academic performance, which is the initial starting point of cooperative learning advocates.

How is Cooperative Learning Connected to Pubic Goods?

Public goods belong to the category of economics. Cooperative learning may be simple for public goods. Some knowledge points and salient features of public goods are simple. If everyone can learn according to the division of labor. It will be very helpful. When there are different opinions in the group, we can communicate with each other. This approach can significantly reduce the burden on individuals. Everyone can get involved. Everyone can connect the content of economics with life. This will be very helpful to enhance the understanding of the content. In this process, students will be able to learn how to get along with others. And realize the charm of cooperative learning. It’s a great way to learn. But the concept of public goods is easy to be misunderstood. This requires the members of the whole group to fully understand the knowledge points. Complete the task with independent thinking. In the process of cooperative learning, each student can share the information and learning materials they explore and discover with other members of the group, or even with other groups or the whole class.

How is Cooperative Learning Connected to our Learning Resource?

Cooperative learning can improve the efficiency of resource collection. And it can improve students’ ability to solve problems. On the basis of performing their own duties, the students who take the same role in the group can break the boundaries of the group and further form an expert group, which is jointly responsible for collecting, studying or understanding the responsibilities of the roles. For example, the moderators of each group can get together to form a moderator expert group to discuss their experiences and feelings in the process of leading the group to solve a certain problem. At the end of the expert group discussion, the team members return to each original group to transmit and analyze the results of the expert group discussion. Through this kind of data mosaic integration, team members can gain more experience from different perspectives. Usually, this method is used to solve complex problems or difficult learning tasks. This is a very good way to collect resources. Through cooperative learning, we can quickly collect resources. This greatly improves our efficiency.

Blog Post 1: Learning, Motivation, and Theory

Share a story about your best learning experience. Why did you enjoy it?

In fact, what I have to admit is that my best learning experience is brought by online learning. Now I’m living in an information ear, many aspects of this world are quite different from what it was in my memory. And in terms of the development of education, I believe it is attributed to the advancement of the Internet. Before I entered the university, actually most of my studies tasks were completed in the classroom, and the lecturers would not make too many requirements on us except for finishing homework. Textbooks and handout materials had become the most important materials in learning. At that time, the Internet was not as developed as it is now, and I didn’t have more options. When I enter the university, I started realize and understand the power of online learning. I personally support constructivism, which emphasizes the significance of experience.

Basically, a constructive learning model is composed of four basic steps, gaining actual experience, observing and reflecting, forming abstract concepts, testing in a new situation, and eventually returning to the step of gaining experience to continue the cycle. In my opinion, experience is the most important thing in the learning process. In the past, my understanding knowledge I learned from textbook was rather abstract, because there were no materials other than the words and pictures in the textbook that could be reference for me to enhance my experience. Now, when I’m studying in the university, things are totally changed. The Internet becomes the primary source in learning, lecturers would students with a lot of useful resources, text is no longer the only material I can get. video, audio, pictures are combined, which has undoubtedly strengthened my experience and understanding about objects. Owing to this, the overall learning effects is improved and I do enjoy learning now.

Self-introduction

My name is Jane and I am from China. I am a fourth-year student studying at UVic. The major I am taking is in Economics. I did not start my college study at UVic. In fact, I spent one year in the College of New Caledonia and transferred credits to UVic. I officially started my college life at UVic as a second-year student. Even though I took a series of economics courses at Uvic in the past a few years, I haven’t decided what profession I should take after graduation. Nevertheless, I am going to obtain a CFA certificate when I finished all courses. The reason for doing that is that even though I have not decided what I am going to do in the future, I want to make sure that I am at least a contender for the job that I am interested in.

I want to know more about how to use advanced technology such as the internet to achieve teaching objects. Even though I am not expected to become a teacher in the future, I believe that understanding how to teach through online models. I hope that after finishing this course, I will become a person with sufficient knowledge to share my knowledge with other people.
